Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost Sunday is on 20 May.  It is the celebreation of the coming of the Holy Spirit on those gathered in the upper room, including Mary, the mother of Jesus (Acts 1:12-14).  In Acts 2 we read that there were many people in Jerusalem, at this time, from every nation under heaven.  Here in our parish we too, have many people from many nations.  So to celebrate the wonderful feast we will continue our tradition of praying the intercessions in different languages.

During the next couple of weeks people will be asked to translate a prayer from English into their own language and pray this prayer at Mass on Pentecost Sunday.

After the 10:00am Mass we are planning to have brunch/lunch at the Hall were we hope many of you will be willing to bring a plate of food to share from your culture.  It will be a good way to meet other members of our parish and build a stronger parish community.

Finding Fatima in a Contemporary Society

Dear Parishioners: St Patrick's Guildford has purchased a file (90 minutes) called "Finding Fatima" which emphasises the relevance and the importance of the Fatima Peace Message for our families, our parish and dioceses and the world. What do we really know about Fatima and our Lady's appearance to three shepherd children: Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia in 1917?

All believers and sceptics are welcome to view this film and offer their opinion and input.  The film contains original footage, fascinating interviews and reveals the three secrets entrusted to the children. The message the Virgin Mary delivered is as relevant today as it was in 1917.

This film will be shown in the Parish Hall at St Patrick's Guildford on Saturday, 26 May at 10:45am. Regards Deacon Richard Mulheron.

A Prayer for Our Earth

All powerful God, you are present in the whole universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, tha twe may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one
O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognise that we are profoundly united with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace.
